What's the redaction certificate?

Can I teach Lex Redactus my firm's specific case number format?
Yes. The Custom Patterns tool (System tab) lets you paste a few examples of any entity format your matters use. Lex Redactus infers the pattern automatically and applies it to all subsequent detections in that matter.
What happens if Lex Redactus tags a name I don't want redacted?
Click the X next to the entity. You'll be asked whether to suppress it just on this document or across the entire matter. The Don't-Tag list is matter-scoped and you can revisit it any time from the Matter settings panel.
How do updates work?
Lex Redactus checks for new versions on launch and shows a banner if one's available. The download happens in the background while you keep working. When you click Install, the new version replaces itself and relaunches automatically. macOS updates are signed and notarized by Apple.
Can I use local AI models like Ollama or LM Studio instead of ChatGPT?
Yes. The redact-then-decode workflow works with any AI tool that accepts pasted text: cloud services like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, or fully local models running in Ollama or LM Studio. With a local model, the entire round trip (document, redaction, AI, and decode) happens on your own hardware.
Is Lex Redactus against using cloud AI?
No. Cloud AI tools are extraordinarily useful. The problem is what you paste into them. Lex Redactus exists so you can use the AI tools you already prefer. PII never leaves your computer unless you allow it. Redact first, then use whichever AI you trust.
Does Lex Redactus provide legal advice or guarantee compliance?
No. Lex Redactus is a redaction tool, not a law firm, and nothing it produces is legal advice. Detection is high-recall but probabilistic. You review every entity before export, and the attorney always remains responsible for the final document. The signed certificate is documented diligence you can produce. It is not a guarantee of compliance with any rule, and no attorney-client relationship is created by using the software.
